Benedicta: Residents seek to save school

"Three years ago, when the state Department of Education threatened to close the Benedicta Elementary School, approximately 50 residents showed up at a public hearing to fight for, and eventually save, the school from being shuttered.

Now, an ominous cloud of closure is once again hanging over the facility, and the school’s fiercely protective supporters have pledged to "fight tooth and nail" to keep the doors open well into the future.

Richard Moreau, director of state schools for the unorganized territories, announced last month that he would recommend that the school be closed at the end of the 2008 school year...."
